Crete is home to more than 2,500 species of horta – wild greenery that is used in local cookery. The island also happens to be home to the most healthy cuisine in the world. Head over to the port capital of Heraklion for a wander through beautiful markets where the smell of fresh herbs lingers in the air. Dine at Erganos within the old city walls where the charming traditional decor creates a beautiful introduction to the traditional Cretan cuisine. Try the goat slow cooked in tomato stew for a foodie experience you won’t forget in a hurry.
