Greek influence

The Iris collections may offer shoes, bags and jewellery but the brand itself is named after our beautiful sandals. With a wide range of styles on offer encompassing pom poms, beads, bold colours and intricate designs, every pair is handmade by artisans on the island of Crete. With such a strong Greek influence running through our lifeblood, we wanted to take you behind the scenes with a glimpse of all that this beautiful isle has to offer and Crete’s best-kept secrets…

Where to Eat

Crete is home to more than 2,500 species of horta – wild greenery that is used in local cookery. The island also happens to be home to the most healthy cuisine in the world. Head over to the port capital of Heraklion for a wander through beautiful markets where the smell of fresh herbs lingers in the air. Dine at Erganos within the old city walls where the charming traditional decor creates a beautiful introduction to the traditional Cretan cuisine. Try the goat slow cooked in tomato stew for a foodie experience you won’t forget in a hurry.

Where to Sleep

Escape the crowds and rest your head at the Kalimera Archanes Village. Situated just 15 minutes outside Knossos at the base of the sacred mountain of Giouhtas, this historic hotel blends contemporary comfort and rustic charm to perfection. It’s a great location for those who like a drink – take a tour around the local wineries and sample the famous local wine “Rozaki”. The village is also home to a handful of churches with Byzantine frescoes.

Where to Beach

Located in South Heraklion on the outskirts of the Asterousia Mountains, Kaminaki Beach is secluded and oh-so-beautiful. Take a boat from the harbour at Treis Ekklisies and spend the day in your own private Eden with only the fish for company.
